Make Mine Backward, Please

Angelina Jolie was recently caught in a embarrassing moment when she wore a gown backward at the Screen Actors Guild. The gown, one by famous designer,Max Azria was intended to be worn with the low-cut in front. Stylist, Jen Rade has claimed that Angelina wanted to wear the dress that way to make it look more like a blouse. A critic complained that by wearing the gown backward, Angelina called too much attention to her "distracting tattoos." Maybe she is really proud of her tattoos, after all she went to the expense and time of getting them. I tend however to agree with that critic. I say, "If you are going out to the SAG awards wearing a famous dress, at least for that time, cover those tattoos and wear it the way intended!"

Boy George Jailed In England

For future reference, if you're ever in England and get a hankering to chain up a Norweigan male escort ... don't. The British justice system does not look kindly upon this, as former Culture Club frontman Boy George has discovered.

A judge sentenced the singer to 15 months in jail following his December conviction for falsely imprisoning Auden Carlsen, the Associated Press reports.

Boy George had met Carlsen online and invited him to his house to pose for nude pictures, then later accused Carlsen of hacking into his computer. When Boy George invited Carlsen to return, the singer handcuffed him to a wall and beat him, prosecutors claimed.

Boy George's lawyer says that both the singer and the escort behaved like "drug-crazed idiots," and that the singer's substance abuse problems were a factor.

Actor, Ricardo Montalban Passes

Ricardo Montalban, the Mexican-born actor who became a star in splashy MGM musicals and later as the wish-fulfilling Mr. Roarke in TV's "Fantasy Island," died Wednesday morning at his home, a city councilman said. He was 88.
Montalban's death was announced at a meeting of the city council by president Eric Garcetti, who represents the district where the actor lived. Garcetti did not give a cause of death.
"The Ricardo Montalban Theatre in my Council District -- where the next generations of performers participate in plays, musicals, and concerts -- stands as a fitting tribute to this consummate performer," Garcetti said later in a written statement.
Montalban had been a star in Mexican movies when MGM brought him to Hollywood in 1946. He was cast in the leading role opposite Esther Williams in "Fiesta." He also starred with the swimming beauty in "On an Island with You" and "Neptune's Daughter."
A later generation knew Montalban as the faintly mysterious, white-suited Mr. Roarke, who presided over an island resort where visitors were able to fulfill their lifelong dreams. "Fantasy Island" received high ratings for most of its 1978-1984 span on ABC television and still appears in reruns.
In a 1978 interview, he analyzed the series' success:
"What is appealing is the idea of attaining the unattainable and learning from it. Once you obtain a fantasy it becomes a reality, and that reality is not as exciting as your fantasy. Through the fantasies you learn to appreciate your own realities."

Slumdog Millionaire, Sucess

It is adapted from Indian diplomat Vikas Swarup’s bestselling novel, Q & A, and some even predict that it will go to the Oscars.

From syndicated film critic Roger Ebert, whose reviews get published in 200 US newspapers, to mainstream dailies like the New York Times, The Washington Post and USA Today, praise for the film that stars Anil Kapoor , Dev Patel and Irrfan Khan has come from all over.

This is a breathless, exciting story, heartbreaking and exhilarating at the same time, about a Mumbai orphan who rises from rags to riches on the strength of his lively intelligence,” said Ebert. “The film’s universal appeal will present the real India to millions of moviegoers for the first time. When I saw Slumdog Millionaire, I was witnessing a phenomenon: dramatic proof that a movie is about how it tells itself,” Ebert said, calling it “one of those miraculous entertainments that achieves its immediate goals and keeps climbing toward a higher summit.”

“It’s hard to hold on to any reservations in the face of Mr Boyle’s resolutely upbeat pitch and seductive visual style,” said the New York Times. “It’s an undeniably attractive package, a seamless mixture of thrills and tears, armchair tourism… and crackerjack professionalism. Both the reliably great Irrfan Khan ( A Mighty Heart ), as a sadistic detective, and the Bollywood star Anil Kapoor, as the preening game-show host, run circles around the young Mr Patel, an agreeable enough if vague centerpiece to all this coordinated, insistently happy chaos,” it said.

“With its stock characters and often outlandishly contrived plot,” said the Washington Post, the film “could easily be relegated to the category of cinematic stunt, a penny dreadful for the post-modern age. But even at its most superficial and floridly overheated, this chai-fuelled tall tale retains its appeal, largely because of Boyle’s fluency with the medium he so obviously loves.”

With dazzling, magical realism and vigorous storytelling, the film has an enchanting power, fusing a fairy tale quality with gritty realism,” said USA Today. “The beautifully rendered and energetic tale celebrates resilience, the power of knowledge and the vitality of the human experience. Horrifying, humorous and life-affirming, it is, above all, unforgettable.”

Ex-NY Giant, Ingram Arrested

Former New York Giant Mark Ingram was arrested in Michigan, nearly a month after he disappeared on the day he was scheduled to begin serving a prison sentence for bank fraud and money laundering.

U.S. marshals tracked the retired wide receiver to a hotel room in Flint, Mich., after a manhunt that began when he failed to turn up at a federal prison in Kentucky on Dec. 5.

A spokesman for the Marshals Service in New York, Timothy Hogan, said Ingram was arrested Friday without incident. The hotel wasn’t far from Ingram’s home in Grand Blanc, Mich.

Ingram, who has been in and out of jail since his playing career ended in 1996, pleaded guilty in 2005 to cashing counterfeit checks and laundering money he believed to be proceeds from narcotics deals.

Before his flight, the 1991 Super Bowl standout had sought to delay the start of his nearly eight-year prison term so he could watch his son’s freshman season as a running back at the University of Alabama.

His arrest came just before the start of his son’s biggest game: A Sugar Bowl matchup against Utah, which Alabama lost 31-17.

Marshals also had been looking for Ingram in New Orleans, where the game was played, Hogan said.

Ingram spent six seasons with the Giants. He also played for Miami, Green Bay and Philadelphia in his 10-year career.

He is scheduled to appear in a federal court in Michigan on Monday. Ingram will travel to New York, where he was prosecuted, to face charges related to his flight.
