Fat Duck, Lame Duck

Chef Heston Blumenthal has temporarily closed his famous restaurant due to a food poisoning scare. Several customers reported feeling ill but the local health department said tests came back negative. Heston shut down The Fat Duck anyway. The restaurant has been awarded three Michelin stars. A sample menu item for the world class restaurant is reported to cost $185.

Britney Spears Sawed In Half

Click photo for larger.

Sort of like a wayward career, Britney Spears is going to disappear into thin air—and then magically reappear, to her fans' ecstatic delight. "Right away, she got into the boxes and into the magic contraptions to learn the stuff, and she's so excited about this tour and all the elements that are in it," illusionist-comedian Ed Alonzo, "the Misfit of Magic." The pop star will serve as Alonzo's assistant in the bit. "We're going to be doing the classics of magic but a little high-tech," he said. "We'll be doing a little dissection, transposition, a vanish, and appearance—and if I do a trick, she doesn't just hold the props, she's actually getting inside the big boxes or I am slicing her up."

Michael Eyes London

Click photos for larger.

A global news agency has reported that Michael Jackson is looking to do a comeback series of up to 30 live shows in London later this year. Also, London's O2 arena is reportedly competing with resort hotels in Las Vegas in the US for the right to host the shows, which could net the fallen icon up to 150 million pounds. An unidentified source told the Daily Mail newspaper, "It will be the greatest comeback in the history of pop and there would be no problem selling out the O2 every night." "No one is concerned about his reputation and people don't feel it is a risk. Organisers are confident people will come from all over the world to see him. There have been rumours about his health but that is not an issue."

Michael has had many front and center embarrassments in recent years including having to give up his beloved Neverland ranch which was his home from 1988 to 2005. Other financial woes have plagued the performer but many if not all of those problems have surfaced because of Michael's own flamboyant lifestyle. Jackson is well known for spending hundreds of thousand of dollars in one meaningless shopping trip. Also, the upkeep on the Neverland amusement rides and zoo pictured below cost him dearly.

Donald The Apprentice, You're Out

Photo:
Hollywood

Seems that "the Donald" lately is hearing the words, "You're fired." Not exactly like that, but he did resign from the board of Trump Entertainment Resorts last week. Mr Trump owns 28 percent of that company which has just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Donald had tried to convince the rest of the board that he wanted to take Trump Entertainment private, but failed to convince them. The filing came as the group missed its last deadline on a $53m interest payment. This is not the first time the group has filed for Chapter 11: four years ago, an earlier incarnation of Trump Entertainment also sought bankruptcy protection from its creditors. The filing reveals that the company has assets of $2bn and total debts of $1.7bn. Its biggest creditor is US Bank, which is acting as agent for the bondholders in the group. The group of bondholders could not be reached for comment but they are owed $1.3bn, according to the filing.

Nude Of Madonna Nets $37,500

Photo:
Madonna 2008

Always blazing trails, Madonna it seams has done it again. A nude photo of the pop singer has fetched a goodly sum of $37,500 at New York's Christie's auction house. The photo is a full-frontal, nude photo of Madonna when she was just a 20-year-old. An anonymous European buyer had the winning bid and spirited away the picture. Madonna did this photo shoot with this photo and five others in 1979 and may have only made $25. This black and white photo and the others appeared in Playboy magazine in 1985.

Atlantis and its lobby

While the general public goes "begging" in the present economic conditions celebrities seem unaffected. Just one example is when Gerard Butler and Michael Jordan recently jetted to Dubai for a $20 million party at the new $1.5 billion marine-themed resort, Atlantis. The resort is built on an artificial island partly shaped like a palm tree. You can get a three-bedroom, three-bathroom suite at Atlantis for $25,000 a night. The heart of the party was a mega fireworks display. Guests were are able to swim with dolphins, enjoy the water park and attend a dinner party. Pop star Kylie Minogue earned $4 million for her performance at this grand opening.

Bill Gates Mosquitoes/Starbucks Taste

Bill Gates (Microsoft) recently released mosquitoes onto a terrified crowd. He did it to make a point about the spread of malaria to under served parts of the planet. He told the wide eyed crowd that poor people should not be the only ones to get malaria. These mosquitoes however had been screened for the dread disease and had none.

Also, Starbucks looses a taste test. The mammoth, global coffee company of Seattle, Washington, USA has lost out to a relatively unknown called Eight-O-Clock coffee.

Elton John "Leaving Las Vegas"

Photo:Elton John
Performing, 2008

Reginald Kenneth Dwight (Sir Elton John) has been singing and playing his red piano for audiences at Las Vegas, Nevada's Caesars Palace since Feb. 2004. Now Elton has decided to close his "The Red Piano" show for good. His final show will be held April 22 with tickets going on sale this Thursday. With this final performance in April, Elton will have completed 241 shows at Caesars.

Elton was born in Pinner, Middlesex on March 25, 1947 to parents, Sheila Eileen (Harris) and Stanley Dwight. He started playing the piano at the age of three, and within a year, his mother heard him picking out Winifred Atwell's "The Skater's Waltz" by ear. It wasn’t long before he was being pressed into service as a performer at parties and family gatherings. He began taking piano lessons at the age of seven. If you can believe it, when Elton began to seriously consider a career in music, his father tried to steer him toward a more "conventional" career such as banking. Elton John has now been a music legend for close to forty years.

Michael Phelps Marijuana Pipe???

Jan. 1 update to below story:
Michael Phelps has today released a statement admitting to smoking from a bong and verifying that the photo in the British tabloid, News of the World is authentic. He is quoted as saying, "I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment," Phelps said in the statement released by one of his agents. "I'm 23 years old and despite the successes I've had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again." Though Phelps did not directly say that he was smoking pot, one does not "usually" smoke any other product from a bong... Plus, why would he feel it was so "regrettable" if what he smoked was not an illicit substance?

4:26 AM US MT Time-
The world's largest tabloid, News of the World owned by Rupert Murdoch of News Corporation (and Fox) fame has just published a photo and article alleging that Michael Phelps was spotted smoking a bong. On November 6, 2008 Phelps appeared at the University Of South Carolina in Columbia at a house party. He was there to visit Jordan Matthews, a girl who was a student there. Phelps is said to have been seeing her secretly for some time. Later, Michael was reported to be partying at a local bar called Pavlov’s. Sometime during all of this, someone is supposed to have snapped the photo of him inhaling from the pipe. You decide... Click the link below.
